Charm Meson Production from Meson-nucleon Scattering

چکیده

Because of their large masses, one expects charm mesons to be mostly produced in the initial preequilibrium stage of relativistic heavy ion collisions. They have thus been suggested as possible probes of the initial dynamics in these collisions. Previous studies have been concentrated on the production of charm quarks from the preequilibrium partonic matter [1]. For charm meson production from nonpartonic matter, the only study is the one [2] based on the Hadron-String Dynamics (HSD) [3] using hadronic cross sections obtained from the Quark-Gluon String Model (QGSM). The QGSM model treats charm meson production from pion-nucleon scattering as a process involving the exchange of the vector charm meson Regge trajectory in t-channel. Contributions from the s and u channels are neglected. To check the validity of this approximation, we have used an effective hadronic Lagrangian based on the flavor SU(4) symmetry but with empirical hadron masses [4]. The coupling constants are taken, if possible, from empirical information. Otherwise, the SU(4) relations are used to relate the unknown coupling constants to the known ones. This Lagrangian has recently been used to study the cross sections for both absorption [5] and charm meson scattering [6] by hadrons. / J ψ

Hadronic scattering of charmed mesons

The scattering cross sections of charm mesons with hadrons such as the pion, rho meson, and nucleon are studied in an effective Lagrangian. In heavy ion collisions, rescattering of produced charm mesons by hadrons affects the invariant mass spectra of both charm meson pairs and dileptons resulting from their decays. These effects are estimated for heavy ion collisions at Super Proton Synchrotro...

Charm meson scattering cross sections by pion and rho meson

Using the local flavor SU(4) gauge invariance in the limit of vanishing vector meson masses, we extend our previous study of charm meson scattering cross sections by pion and rho meson, which is based only on the pseudoscalarpseudoscalar-vector meson couplings, to include also contributions from the couplings among three vector mesons and among four particles. We find that diagrams with light m...

Threshold Perspectives on Meson Production

Studies of meson production in nucleon–nucleon collisions at threshold are characterised by few degrees of freedom in a configuration of well defined initial and final states with a transition governed by short range dynamics. Effects from low–energy scattering in the exit channel are inherent to the data and probe the interaction in baryon–meson and meson–meson systems otherwise difficult to a...

Hadronic Scatterings of Charm Mesons and Enhancement of Intermediate Mass Dileptons

Heavy quark production in hadronic reactions is reasonably well described by perturbative QCD. However, in heavy ion collisions, final-state interactions may affect the spectra of produced heavy mesons. At the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), a dense partonic system, often called the quark gluon plasma (QGP), is expected to be formed at the early stage. Since the QGP may induce a strong ...

In heavy ion collisions, rescattering of produced charm mesons by hadrons affects both their transverse mass spectra and the invariant mass spectrum of dileptons resulting from their decays. These effects are estimated for heavy ion collisions at SPS energies an...
